Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible to apply for our 2026 cohort, you will need to meet ONE of the following criteria:
- You are a current student on track to earn your first bachelor’s degree by August 2026
- You earned your first bachelor’s degree in the last five years (January 2020 or later)
- You earned your first bachelor’s degree more than five years ago, and were 30 years or younger on January 1st, 2025
You will also need to meet the minimum degree and language requirements for McGill master’s program admission.

Minimum Degree and Language Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent as recognized by McGill University) in a subject closely related to the one selected for graduate studies.
- Outstanding applicants with an undergraduate (i.e., Bachelor’s) degree who have extensive research experience may be admitted to a doctoral (PhD) program without completing a Master’s degree first.
- The minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (cGPA) of 3.0 out of a possible 4.0, or a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.2 out of 4.0 in the last two years of full-time studies. In some departments, a higher CGPA may be required for admission. Consult your program requirements for details.
- Your educational credentials will be assessed for equivalency with a McGill University degree. Please consult the Degree Equivalency page for more information.
- Proficiency in English: The primary language of instruction at McGill is English. You may make arrangements to write papers, examinations, or theses in French, except in cases where knowledge of the English language is one of the objectives of the course. Benefits
The scholarship covers:
- Tuition and fees for the full normal duration of the master’s or professional program
- A living stipend of $2,300 per month during academic terms
- A one-time relocation grant for moving to Montréal
- Beginner to advanced French language courses offered through McGill
- Scholars not pursuing an academic term during the summer may apply for up to $5,000 to pursue meaningful summer initiatives.

For the referees, you’ll need their email. Once you start the application, add their information and click “Send to Recommender.” They will receive an email from info@mccallmacbainscholars.org. The email contains a unique link to access the reference form in our online system.
Process Steps
- Apply for the McCall and MacBain Scholarship (First step).
- Apply separately for a Master’s program at McGill University in September for the following Fall Semester.
- Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interviews.
